Software Updates for the XL200 Series Controller
The XL200 series controller is the latest hardware series created by AMS Controls.
The initial release of this controller series was geared to work with the XL100
series software platform.
The first release of the XL200 series controller shipped with version "1"
software. This maintained the look, feel, and functionality of the XL100 series.
Plants
that already use the XL100 series controller can purchase new XL200, version
"1" controllers
and integrate them seamlessly into their production. Operators do not have
to be re-trained to use a new controller with a different look and feel.
The XL200 version "2" firmware demonstrates increased functionality,
accuracy, and is more easily updated compared to the XL100 series. Upgrading
the controller is a simple matter, once a facility is ready for the new software.
Contact AMS Controls for version "2" firmware and the XL200 Flash
Program required to perform the upgrade at no cost (i.e. XL206CL v1.11 to XL206CL
v2.04). Charges only apply if associated with a software upgrade that changes
models (i.e. XL200 to XL206). Contact AMS Controls for details.
Eclipse users do not need the XL200 Flash Program software, only the file
required to change controller software versions. The Eclipse software package
includes the functionality to update XL200 series controller software via the
Eclipse communication link. Users with multiple XL controllers on their Eclipse
network, or users with large volumes of data transmission might want to use
the XL200 Flash Program software instead of Eclipse for updating controller
software. Data transmission to the rest of the network is halted while updating
software in one of the controllers on the network.
For XL200 series users who do not have the Eclipse software, the XL200 Flash
Program software can be loaded onto a laptop and will allow users to download
the update file to the controller. AMS Controls technical support can help
with this process. The software includes a step-by-step instruction manual
for ease of use.
The XL200 Flash Program is a simple, stand-alone program that does not require
an installation. The software, a standard RS232 straight-through DB9-DB9 plugged
into a laptop, and the actual update file is all that is required to update
the software on the XL200 series controller.
